This constituency covers an approximate area of 881.45 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 24°11'58.2"N 87°12'32.8"E.

A total of four Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Dumka constituency, which are: Shikaripara, Nala, Sarath, Jama. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Birbhum district of West Bengal.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, in the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the estimated voter turnout in this Jharkhand constituency was 70.56%. In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Hemant Soren of JMM won in this constituency beating Lois Marandi of BJP by a margin of 13,188 votes which was 07.96% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Lois Marandi of BJP was the winner in this seat beating Hemant Soren of JMM by a margin of 4,914 votes which was 3.15% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Hemant Soren of JMM won this seat defeating Lois Marandi of BJP by a margin of 2,669 votes which was 2.35% of the total votes polled for the seat.
