Assembly constituency no.21. Barhi comprises of the following areas of Hazaribagh district in the North Jharkhand region of Jharkhand: Barhi police station in Hazaribagh Sadar sub-division; and Chauparan police station in Kodarrna sub-division.

This constituency covers an approximate area of 1169.09 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Sabalagadh is: 24°20'49.9"N 85°22'35.4"E.

A total of five Assembly constituencies in the state of Jharkhand share borders with Barhi constituency, which are: Kodarma, Barkatha, Hazaribagh, Simaria, Chatra. This constituency shares an inter-state border with Gaya district of Bihar.

In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Umashankar Akela of INC won in this constituency beating Manoj Kumar Yadav of BJP by a margin of 11,371 votes which was 06.31% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Manoj Kumar Yadav of INC was the winner in this seat beating Umashankar Akela of BJP by a margin of 7,085 votes which was 4.06% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Umashankar Akela of BJP won this seat defeating Manoj Yadav of INC by a margin of 8,085 votes which was 6.27% of the total votes polled for the seat.
