Demographic profile

There were a total of 2,67,167 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2024 Assembly election, of which 1,36,493 were male, 1,30,604 female and 70 of the third gender. In the 2019 Assembly elections, there were a total of 2,54,061 registered voters, of which 1,36,493 were male, 1,22,823 female and 34 of the third gender. In 2014 elections, there were a total of 2,29,491 registered voters in this constituency, of which 1,20,667 were male, 1,08,805 female and 19 of the third gender. In the 2009 polls, the number of total electors was 2,14,141 which included 1,12,193 male, and 1,01,948 female.

In the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, Sanjib Kumar Mallick of BJD won in this constituency beating Dr Pradip Nayak of BJP by a margin of 33,389 votes which was 18.56% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Jugal Kishore Pattnaik of BJD was the winner in this seat beating Naren Pallai of INC by a margin of 23,587 votes which was 14.59% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Jugal Kishore Pattnaik of BJD won this seat defeating Naren Pallai of INC by a margin of 21,428 votes which was 15.37% of the total votes polled for the seat.
